mindfulness: 1

Thought for the day.

Other people can't hurt me but my expectations of them can.

Most people are consistent in their actions. If you feel someone "always" lets you down, it's not their fault - they're being consistent. It is our expectation that they will act differently this time that wounds us.

Well said AOF. People are what they are and expecting them to be different is what gets us hurt. We cannot control another's behaviour but we can control our response to them.

Thanks Lene and Jo. I'm trying to practice this as a mantra in my grief journey. I only get hurt when "friends" don't contact me to see how I'm going...if I'm expecting them to.
