Saturday night in Reservoir

9.58 pm, Puckhandlers, Reservoir

This pic kind of sums up the whole Roller Derby experience.

An all ages, all subcultures gig. Part sport, part entertainment with a dance extravaganza at half time provided by "Real Hot Bitches".

Catherine Deveny was there, so maybe if The Age gives her the pay rise and she returns to popping out her opinion pieces you might read more about this unique experience.

But for now I will sum it up in the following words: JB&coke, punks, Bogan Bingo, Busted-up Bamby, hot chips, men in tutus, flannel shirts, tatoos, winnie blues, skates, grrls with attitude, what the hell was I doing there?

You were here because you are open to all forms of popular cultural expression, and recognise the right we have to a variety of interest and activity ... if the rolling puckle punks did not exist for contrast, the the ballet at the Arts Centre wouldn't look so darling now would it?

OTOH your new ink exposed by rolled up flannels needed a showing and you like Bogan Bingo and canned mixer drinks?

I had a good time just reading about it, and wish I'd been there.

Is there wrestling-in-jelly anywhere in Melbourne?
(I'm thinking grogblog)

Jelly wrestling was exactly what the not-boyfriend hoped for when I invited him to this night of nights! (Who needs the logies?)

Unfortunately the coupling of the same concept with bloggers gave me a vision most foul of a naked Bolt covered in green slime...out, out, no that is too horrible to consider!

The way Melbournians pronounce the suburb's name makes American renditions of old French names sound sophisticated. It all flows on from there, power of language, Derrida, etc.

oh PS:

I always wonder though ...who makes up the jelly, and do they open hundreds of little cardboard packets.

Armangac - welcome back!

Brownie - am sure there are catering packs of the stuff. Not sure though if sold in sex shops or catering supply stores though :)
