so who doesn't believe in global warming now?

Just in case you don't live in Victoria or South Australia or haven't seen enough other blogs banging on about it...

6.30 pm Melbourne, Australia.

Though the silly little yahoo weather feature on the iphone got tomorrow's temperature wrong as it should be 43 again, making it three days in a row at 43c or above.

Libya, Ethiopia and Iran have hotter days, and more often.

Our experience this week sheds light for us, on why those governments are the way they are.

Western Australia gets this hot a lot, but they have The Doctor - the cooling ocean wind.

Please everybody: put out dishes of water for the birds and cats and dogs.

I'm not convinced about global warming. Australia's always been really hot, especially at the end of Jan, going into Feb. We used to cut school to avoid the heat. However, that doesn't make the heat any less easier to put up with. For once, I'm glad to be in the tropics where it's a mild 30 degrees.

Hi GB!

Well, the recent extreme heat is no more evidence of global warming than a recent colder year is evidence against it. That said, of course, climate models do predict that this sort of weather is what we're likely to get more of, over time. Not a happy thought.

(And jo_blue, of course Australia is hot in summer. Nature of the beast. But that doesn't mean that there is not overwhelming evidence that climate change is occurring and that it is anthropogenic.)

It used to be that if you wanted to start a heated discussion at a dinner party you talked about religion. Individual choice versus herd immunity is a good one when everyone is having babies. But now it is climate change fact or fiction.

My understanding of global warming is a move towards more extreme weather conditions. While its not unusual to get over 40 in Melbourne at this time of year - the fact it is hanging around for so long is definitely out of character.

The current drought round here is also breaking records.

Whatever...its darn unpleasant!
