proof of the existence of god?

or that we really are descended from apes?

...and if that wasn't logic enough, you can't go past the mind boggling rationalism of the peanut butter argument.

Are these people on something or is it just some strange kind of virus affecting the neurological system?

Pilger, Chavez and the vitriolic left

Over at Larvateus Prodeo there’s been a Chavez-bashing fest rarely seen on a left leaning blog, due to a post about Pilger’s new film “The War on Democracy”. As one of the 2 people who commented who had actually seen the film, I’m going to jump a little sideways and go to an issue Pilger raised during the Q&A after the screening.

He talked of landing in Sydney on the last day of virtual Marshall Law in the city. That is the final day of OPEC APEC. He made a stinging attack on those Sydneysiders who took the made up holiday and headed off to have a good time rather than go and fight at the barricades.

Some did though – and this is what happened.

(Thanks Daily Magnet for the heads up on this piece from ManifestoDeSydney.)

Pilger seems to get up people’s noses. While his latest piece is not the most gripping doco I’ve seen, in person or on the screen - in my opinion we need more Pilgers – asking questions, inspiring or irritating us. In his own way, he is redressing the media imbalance, with equal bias perhaps, to tell another side of the Latin America political story – one that doesn’t tally with the current media owning cartels take on history.

Tourist attraction with dual flush

A previously anonymous airport toilet has become a tourist attraction, according to this report on the BBC news site. The Minneapolis toilet is now famous due to a Republican senator being arrested a few months ago for “disorderly conduct” with another man, in the public convenience. People are lining up to have their picture taken where the politician allegedly had sex.

While this may prove that it's not only movie stars who give the nearest girl/boy a come hither look at the merest whiff of disinfectant, personlly I've never found polies or urine stained public bathrooms to be an aphrodisiac.

Though I must admit to taking the odd loo shot.

Greenspan outs Bush over Iraq

Well who would have thought it? Bush invaded Iraq to steal their oil, it had nothing to do with weapons of mass destruction after all.

I won't be holding my breath waiting for the war crimes charges to filed just yet though.

why did the accountant cross the road?

Not to get to the other side, according to the thugs police and other protective forces keeping dignitaries safe from peaceful dangerous protestors. Surely middle aged accountants strolling through the city with their children, heading for Yum Cha are covert terrorists. It must be the Hawaiian shirt that gave him away.

This would almost be funny if he wasn’t flung to the ground, dragged on the pavement, thrown into jail for ”resisting arrest” and kept incommunicado for 22 hours. It might be humourous if his son didn’t witness it and was traumatised. And maybe, just maybe, the boys in blue might have made the charges stick if Channel 9 hadn’t recorded the whole thing*.

Update 10.9.07 - Thanks to the kind soul who uploaded the footage to You Tube. Decide for yourself: is the man a threat or are the police abusing their powers?

the first step to decluttering

I have just thrown out my secret stash of plastic bags, sturdy paper bags with pretty motifs or classy branding, assorted used tissue paper and odd bits of bunting.

I have this lurking feeling that I will live to regret it.

I’ve been to a mini family reunion. I realise now it was on the small side because

a. my parents are becoming increasingly anti social
b. their friends and family keep dying
c. the surviving offspring have been a bit slack on the reproduction front
d. all of the above

I was half the age of most of people at the gathering and as a result I still had all my bits. From what I could discern the bodily losses I could account for included – half a lung, a bladder, a lot of cartilage and a few marbles.

I rediscovered a few old friends – bluey, betty, pengy, rabbit, koala and mrs buggins. They too seem to be missing a few of their bits but they are still great listeners, so that makes up for it.

I guess the wheels have to fall off eventually. But for now I just appreciate seeing friends, new and old, and enjoying a good glass of kiwi sauv blanc.
